Hi y'all! Tumblr doesn't seem to be the best venue for a hop so I've moved it over here as a first post.
Sorry for the confusion!!!
I'll add all comments from here, there and everywhere into the giveaway
(details at end of post).
I was at the end of posting pictures and talking about my experiences on this, my first blog hop when I left the page to grab a link and everything disappeared. ::insert sad face here::
So, I’ll have to start over (maybe it saved you from me and my ramblings).
Check the bottom of the post for my giveaway!
Be sure to check out the many great projects from my fellow hop participants. Some even have goodies!
Look
who else is in the middle of Rush
Hour:
Tuesday, September 23
Wednesday, September 24
Thursday, September 25
Friday, September 26
Monday, September 29
Tuesday, September 30
For now I’ll post my projects and add some of my prior commentary a bit later in the day.
My first piece is a small table mat to go under my Penncrest when I use it on top of one of my Kenmore cabinets. I staggered the piecing and sliced through and inserted fabric in various spots to give a sense of general discombobulation experienced by anyone in hurry up and wait mode, aka Rush Hour.
I am very new to sewing and now see why it is recommended that one quilt with like color thread. I can barely draw a straight line with a ruler and apparently need more practice sewing them as well. Too funny! Clearly a design choice - a feature not a bug.
My next is a wall hanging. It reminds me of facing traffic to reach work in a cubicle, drinking coffee to make it through the day and then facing the traffic again to get home.
On a side note - I was cutting some strips at a slight angle to make it wonky. The solid red was supposed to slope but I cut it while folded. D’oh! So instead it dips. Rather than view it as a mistake, it is now a design decision denoting midday caffeine slump. I’m sure that is what I intended all along. Ha!
It is also a cat mat: Dr Girlfriend approved!
Actually everything I make is a cat bed at some point. Maybe I should make an actual cat bed - though they would probably shun it - being cats and all.
I haven’t decided how I want to quilt it as yet. I think I’ll hang it above my sewing machine, maybe rotate it on each side and see what springs to mind.
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of the hop!
Now to my giveaway - a surprise package of usable scraps (applique, patchwork, etc) of some of the Rush Hour fabrics plus bonus fabric in the winners favorite colorway or style. I’ll ship anywhere.
Just leave a comment telling me your favorite color and/or style of fabric and what you like to make. I’ll randomly select a winner on the final day of the hop - next Tuesday, September 30.
If you are a no-reply blogger, be sure I have your contact information so I can reach you if you win.
I have added the comments from the main hop blog, my tumblr acct and now here. I can be reached at notwendy@gmail.com if you would like to comment (and enter the giveaway) but have trouble doing so on Tumblr.
In closing I would like to thank Madame Samm of Sew We Quilt (Mdm Samm) & Carol of Just Let Me Quilt (Carol) for arranging and promoting the process. I had fun on my first hop and look forward to many more.
welcome to blog land....many will no doubt fine you.....you did good..very well in your first hop and first blog bravooox
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your lovely quilt! I made a comment on ISew WE Quilt, when I didn't want to sign up to tumbir as I hadn't hear of it before. Thank you for joining the hop.
ReplyDeleteI really like your cubicle partitions and all of the activities going on in each stand out. Very nice. I chuckled at your different color stripes on your placemat ~ traveling here and there. A couple little boys would like to run their cars there! Very rush hour. Thank you for your fun post. ReplyDeleteNice projects, looks like your cat wants a new place for its nap. Favorite colors/ fabrics - all colors just done in blenders, fall/Halloween and Christmas prints. Timeless Treasures is one of my favorites. 24Tangent@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI like all your projects. You did a good job. I don't have a favoriteof anything. I am always happy with something new(to me) and use everything.
ReplyDeleteGreat projects, love the wonky mat. With Christmas and Halloween on the way, any festive print for those would be lovely. Thank you for sharing your talents :)
ReplyDeleteI love both of your projects. Everything is a cat mat here too. Especially during the winter. Thank you for sharing your projects. xo jan
ReplyDeleteSo much nicer to comment...thanks for switching it over so it's easier for us!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with both projects! Thank you for switching your post for us. I love bright colors and this combination.
ReplyDeleteYou really did a good job of this post, especially considering you had to change venues due to an emergency!! Way to overcome!!!! Love your projects! Don't you know, non-straight lines are more "organic" and all the rage right now!!! Straight lines are easier if you mark the quilt top before layering and use a walking foot to follow those lines - mind you, I'm speaking as someone who hated quilting on her DSM and bought a longarm! But, I do read blogs of those who do amazing things on the DSM!!! Both of your projects definitely remind me of rush hour!! So glad my commute is just walking up stairs!!
ReplyDeleteNice projects. I like to use cottons in a variety of colors as I love the scrappy look.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to blogging and sewing. Your "cat mat" and wall hanging are wonderful. Great job done. Thank you sew very much for sharing and hopping. Creative Rush Hour Bliss...
ReplyDeleteLove your projects....you did a great job for a new quilter.....right now I'm liking the modern fabrics......
ReplyDeleteLove the wall hanging. Gives me vertigo as if viewing through windows from a very high floor from a very crowded office.
ReplyDeleteThink I like Civil War fabric colors. I prefer making wall hangings that I hand quilt.
Your projects are wonderful. Love the way you use color. Very modern. If I am lucky enough to win any fabric is welcome. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on jumping in on the hop and using your beginning steps to entertain us. You're well on your way when you decide that mistakes are just design opportunities. Love the mat and I like the expressive way you added strips.
ReplyDeleteLove your cute helper! ;) Bummer about such a frustrating entrance into blogland. Next time will be better!
ReplyDeleteWonderful creativity in your projects.
I really like working with blues and green. I enjoy making quilts but also Tote's for gifts.

I love that you aren't afraid to make-spur of the moment design decisions. Great post.
ReplyDeleteYour mat and wall quilt look great. I love red, white and black as a color combo. I'm also partial to bright, cheery colors.
ReplyDeleteYayayayay! We get to show some LOVE for your AWESOME projects!!!! You did a great job!!! Thank you for reposting!!! Hugs!!!!
ReplyDeleteDesign choice, design decision due to Midday coffee slump - made me giggle! I "plan" things that way too! Fab projects!
ReplyDeleteOops forgot my colors - I love all sorts of colors - right now I am in aqua mode but love a rainbow!
DeleteCongratulations on your first blog hop. You have great projects. I just love the way you approach midday caffeine slump. Your humor is terrific and your honesty is refreshing. You really scrambled to get this post "comment ready" and I'm so happy to be able to tell you how much I enjoyed your post. I'm a teal and coral fan for fabric, but any bright colors make me smile.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the wonderful world of blogging. You'll get the hang on it in no time. Your projects are great and very creative. I love the new design feature in the dip of the day! My favorite colors are red/white/blue but let's face it, if you're giving away fabric, beggers can't be choosers as my mom would say!
ReplyDeleteYeah, for your first blog hop and blog!! It is sew nice to meet you. I look forward to seeing you in many more. I like your fun placement of the fabric on both your projects. So modern and fun!!
ReplyDeleteYAY! A new blogger. Welcome! I like both your cat beds! My cat likes to quality check everything too. And I did make her a cat bed. She actually lies on it.....and it only took A YEAR! I like making loads of stuff(fabric baskets, heart door hangers, book marks, placemats, mugrugs.....etc. etc.), but mostly quilts. Big quilts. Anything under 2 meters is just a bit uncommitted I think.... My favourite colours are pinks and greens. Use them everywhere. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteROFL your quilts are cool and I am going to assume you work in computer system design? Those are the terms we used to use when things don't quite the way they should.
ReplyDeleteHi!!!! Very cute cat mat!!!! I really like your wall hanging!!!! It has a liberated look to it!!!! I would love to see what else you do with it!!!! Thank You
ReplyDeleteYour fun quilts interpret the rush hour theme perfectly! And you shouldn't worry about the quilting - as you said, it's a design choice. Thanks for the delightful post. I loved reading about your cats!
ReplyDeleteCute "cat" mat and wall hanging. I think any sewist or quilter who is owned by a cat has problems keeping the critter off of said fabric piece. Doesn't matter to them if it is a quilt or the laundry basket! Thx for the giveaway opportunity and sharing your work with us.
ReplyDeletebeautiful work on all your pieces
ReplyDeleteBoth pieces are really Lovely, and so cute Kitty likes her Mat too!! Thanks for sharing your Rush Hour with us!! My fav color is Aqua/Teal
ReplyDeleteHuggs, Nancy
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI love blue in different shades. And I make quilts for home all the time:)
I love making table runners. I like making big quilts too, but find it difficult to feed them through my home machine to quilt them! One of my favoirte combos is peach, aqua and white.
ReplyDeleteI am really liking blacks and greys right now with a shot of a bright color. Like yellow or pink. I am relatively new to sewing, and have not made much as of yet. A few taggies for babies and little things as such. My goal next in line: to make a quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love wonkiness in any quilt...actually any project! It just adds a special, personal touch. Perfection is so over-rated. My favorites are bright colors in paisley prints or florals. I love to make gifts for others, such as mug rugs, tote bags, zippered pouches, etc. Quick projects that produce smiles.
ReplyDeleteI'd like some yellow and grey to make a quilt for my sister's christmas present!
ReplyDeleteI love how you made your wallhanging and your mat is wonderful. I'm not a fan of these colors but in your projects I love them! I love to make bags and my favorite colors are teal and purple!
ReplyDeleteI like blues and my favorite thing to make is quilts for my friends and family
ReplyDeleteI like earth tones and then again I like bright colors. I make scrappy quilts so I use many different colors.
ReplyDeleteGreat projects! Love the wallhanging. AND, your cat is beautiful. I have many grand-cats!!! Thanks for sharing, and welcome to the world of blogging.
ReplyDeleteTangerine is my ultimate color , after all I'm a Leo and unless it looks like its on fire, it's not me:) Tone on tone orange, tangerines, and turquoise.
